May 16, 2016

This is the last day to work on my blog and I am very excited and worried. I think I should include a

lot of photos of my mentor and her work. I really want to show a video of some popping, but I'm

afraid people wont be able to stomach it. In my opinion it is very entertaining to watch even though

others don't. I like that fact that its grosses my friends out because I think its hilarious. I should get it

to as less gross as possible so nobody hurls.

I am excited to present because it is something I am very passionate about I could literally talk about

it all day. I like that a dermatologist is able to improve others appearance and make them feel

beautiful again, even if its just by a little. This week I reviewed more TED talks and kind of

conjured up an idea. I will first introduce my mentor and other people from town that work with the

same field. Then I will show a PG video of some pimple popping, probably blackhead pops because

they're not so terrible.

What should you eat to keep acne away?

I have done some research on how to keep acne away and it mainly has to do with what you eat. All these greasy fast foods is what is causing acne to develop. I am definitely guilty of eating McDonalds almost everyday and I've noticed the bad changes in my skin. My best friend Alessandra is one example of someone who eats right. She cut out all dairy and meats for six months, she practically went vegan. She discovered that dairy and the meats she ate were a trigger for acne. When I say dairy I mean cheeses, whole milk, ice cream, and eggs; meats you have cows, chicken, fish, etc. Imagine not be able to eat most of the food groups and have clear skin sounds amazing right!
Well I am going to go through my lists of foods you should eat to keep acne away.

  What You Should Eat!
  • Whole grains
  • Oranges
  • Carrots
  • Spinach
  • Watermelon
  • Almonds
  • Green tea

Antioxidant rich foods provide a dose of goodness for your skin. Foods like spinach, green tea, and berries fight off radicals in your body that cause skin damage and breakouts. Foods with selenium such as almonds, and whole grains provide a powerful antioxidant that help preserve skin's elasticity and reduce inflammation. Fruits like oranges, tomatoes and strawberries boost your immune system. They also protect your skin from acne scaring and heal your damaged, or, irritated skin. In addition to all this healthy eating the most important thing you should consume is water. Drinking lots of water is the best thing you can do for yourself because it is a healthy habit. Drinking water keeps you hydrated and translates to your skin. Also eating foods high in water content is great such as watermelon and cucumbers.

It is the next to last day I have to prepare for this "wonderful" project. I am so stressed out about presenting to everyone. I hate, hate, hate talking in front of a lot of people that have to listen to you. Just to many eyes watching. I had a chance to review a TED talk and I feel that I can pull it off with good practice!
Over the weekend I had a fairly good mother's day and went over a few steps I have to take to make this project successful. Step one: Remain calm under stress and its always okay to cry a little. Step two: RESEARCH! I have done my share of viewing Dr. Sandra Lee's YouTube channel, but I think I should take a step further and learn more background about skin. Step three: Post more! I need to gain my points and get caught up on this blog pronto. Step four: Start my TED talk presentation. This is going to be very difficult since I haven't started yet and there is so many different little details to follow to create a good presentation.
These four steps will make me crystal for my presentation. I will keep reviewing these TED talks and study the way they talk, gesture, present with something shown on a screen and without it. I want my presentation to be great. I want to be able to look at the audience the whole time and know my material like an expert. I think if I work hard and focus a few hours everyday I will be successful!

May 2, 2016

It is getting closer and closer to the end of the year. Everything is getting so overwhelming. I have failed most of the way on this blog journey and which makes me reconsider my major. I believe I am a good writer and acquire the capabilities of a struggling journalist. Though my time management is not well, I believe I can finish this blog strongly. I have not managed to get an interview with the famous dermatologists Dr.Sandra Lee (my idol), but I did find a video of her explaining how to become a dermatologist. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TzTYeXZWjo

In her video she is self interviewing herself and going through with detail. I will review this video once more and reflect thoroughly, but in summary it her basic life on the way to dermatology. This weekend I did further research to avoiding acne. I found my research through Dr. Sandra Lee's YouTube channel and Google sources. It is mainly based on what you consume and your lifestyle.

Certain things we eat and drink can trigger the acne. All the fatty fast foods, dairy, and sweet things are truly hurting us inside and out. These food groups not only effect your weight, they effect your skin too. It is also important to try to exercise too. It is very helpful to cleanse your boy and sweat away the bacteria.

The Skin Benefits of Cocoa Butter

Cocoa beans have been around for centuries being used as a skin moisturizer in areas like Mesoamerica and the Caribbean. They are native beans apart of the Central and South America. Cocoa butter  is a natural oil extracted from the cocoa bean. It is a theobroma oil that naturally heals sensitive, dry skin. Cocoa butter is completely edible and can be found in products like lip glosses, lotions, and other beauty items.
Cocoa butter is a considered a healthy fat, like coconut oil. It is much healthier for our diets being high in antioxidant which improves our heart health. For the skin it plays a big part because it naturally hydrates the skin. Working from the inside out the skin absorbs the cocoa butter residing there for hours. Also since there is no fragrance, colors, or dyes you can use it to prevent dryness and peeling.  So if you have dry, cracked skin applying cocoa butter to the affected area can improve the moister.
The most common use of cocoa butter is as a lip balm. Many people create their own homemade lip balm which is great if using all natural ingredients. Since it is a emollient, which means it is high in moister it creates an extra layer to protect the lips from drying up. Your homemade lip balm can be mixed with essential oils like peppermint, vanilla, or, grapefruit. Our lips are very unprotected and with the cocoa butter protecting us from heat, and cold temperatures your lips will never stay dry.
Furthermore a dab of cocoa butter here and there can help prevent skin dryness and peeling, heals chapped lips, fights signs of aging, soothes burns, rashes, and infections.

Workay #6

This week I have evaluated how to remove your pimples and blackheads. Usually these treatments are done overnight to completely rid of your acne. First you start by simply washing your hands before you wash your face. You should be massaging your face gently and mainly in areas where you breakout. When washing your face it is important to always be gentle. If you're not gentle you could tear off a pimple which will only leave a scar. I will demonstrate three different home remedies. These remedies are common that everyone can use; toothpaste, honey-cinnamon mixture, and asprin.
Toothpaste is a great overnight. treatment to remove pimples. It is in every household, so everyone can try it out. Apply some white toothpaste to the influenced ranges of the skin overnight, washing with cool water in the morning to cure pimples. It is important to use a white pasted toothpaste instead of a gel because the gel wont be as effective. This handy treatment can be done every night.
The honey-cinnamon mixture is a sticky based mask. Honey is very essential it can be mixed with yogurt, apples, aloe vera, lemons, and cinnamon. The honey-cinnamon mask is very beneficial because it will leave your face soft and smooth. Cinnamon exfoliates the skin reducing blemishes. While the stickiness of honey pulls away dirt and dead skin from the pores, leaving your skin smooth and shiny. Leave this mask on overnight for two weeks to compare results.
Now this remedy is very easy you only need one ingredient, asprin. This pill contains a crystalline compound that reduces the redness and inflammatory of pimples. An asprin mask can help fight skin discoloration, cleanse clogged pores, and remove dead skin cells. It is weird to know that a small pill for pain can also help our acne.
These household items can be found in everyone's cabinets. These ingredients each have a beneficial factor to clear skin. It's easy to test these remedies if you want to clear your blemishes, or just simply have better skin.

Cysts and Nodules

There are many other developments that occur on the skin due to acne.
Nodules and cysts are a more severe type of acne growth. Both developments can be treated, but are recommended to be reviewed and handled by a doctor. This type of acne is classified as an abnormal noncancerous fluid filled growths. Having knowledge of these growths can help you avoid getting them.
A nodule forms under the skin filling up with a mix of tissue and fluid. It can grow within any level of the skin. The common areas they grow are within the groin, lungs, thyroid glands, and underarms. They are mainly caused by injuries, cancer, overgrown tissue, and over functioning hormones. To differ from nodules you have cysts. Cyst are sac-like in sstructur, filled with pus, or, gaseous material and can occur anywhere on the body. They are caused by infection, blockage ducts, clogged pores, tumors, or, even a parasite. Cysts do not always cause pain and do not disappear on their own. In conclusion these growths can be big or small either way you should be treated fast and by a certified doctor.
